Super Rugby 2015 | SA Men

On Saturday morning the Highlanders confirmed their Super Rugby challenge by dispatching the Chiefs at Dunedin.  The crowd, filled with the so-called Zoo of the local campus offered a rather hostile environment for the visiting team.  With the opening stages of what was a running game throughout only being rewarded with three pointers, Andrew Horrell found it hard kicking for posts at first and so the Chiefs didn’t get the strangle hold necessary to contain their opposition.

In his defence I would've said that any change new Cheetahs' coach Franco Smith might make to his team's fortunes would only become evident much later as he settles in as coach. There was no need for such an excuse as it seemed an immediate difference had taken effect at the Cheetahs as they took on the Bulls at Loftus. There was no hint of standing back this time around as the Cheetahs surged to build an early lead, looking as though they had wrapped up the game by half-time.

After Saturday morning’s game the question might be begged why any of our teams would even bother touring down under. The Bulls were forced to tread in the same tracks as some other S.A. teams and so encountered another Aussie villain watching from on high. Even after the reprimand of SANZAR on some officials the T.M.O at Melbourne still found it within himself to deny a pretty clear and obvious try by Burger Odendaal that would’ve restored some dignity to the Bull’s tour.

Super Rugby 2015 | SA Men

Fridays have not been kind to the Bulls as they fell short yet again on tour, this time against the Brumbies. The Bulls seemed to be captured by their old one-dimensional approach and ironically did get a good score from the driving maul, but then decided to swerve away from that approach only to play right into the hands of David Pocock, who has become a menace again at the breakdowns and he assured a Brumbies win.
