Time for Redemption Boks!

Sport line up 25 Sept 2015 | SA Men

In a sense, redemption means to seek forgiveness for errors, and protection from disgrace, eternal or temporary, generally through sacrifice. This may sound a little over the top when we put it into the context of the Springboks losing to Japan last weekend, but essentially, the team has to redeem themselves in the eyes of the South African fans when they face Samoa on Saturday evening. They need to put their bodies on the line and make personal sacrifices wherever they can.

The Boks are up on Saturday at 17:45 when they meet Japan in their opening match. Although the outcome should be easy to guess, it should still be a great match to watch. Rugby Championship review - SA vs Argentina (round 2)

Super Rugby 2015 | SA Men

More than eight-thousand kilometres removed from their last encounter, the Boks looked to be happy to return the favour laying to rest a Pumas team in front of their home crowd, the way they had done to us just the week before. Argentina certainly looked less spirited than last time around and it has been rightly observed that referee Glen Jackson took the wind out of their sails and didn't allow for any negative play that could've potentially spoiled the Boks' chance at revenge.

Rugby Championship - South Africa vs Argentina

Super rugby opinion

It was arguably among our darkest days, the eve of the World Cup kick-off suddenly having most of us quite nervous.  Two narrow losses against Australia and New Zealand could've easily slipped underneath the radar, but losing for our third game in a row and for the first time against Argentina sees the Boks in an awkward place of low-confidence and in the sights of a furious public that would expect a remedy immediately.   To their credit, Argentina was as good as we were bad. They had clearly targeted this match, pulling off some choice set-moves and scoring tries almost effortlessly.

Rugby Championship - South Africa vs New Zealand

Opinion SA vs NZ Rugby Championship

The sky had cleared for the one game of the year that momentarily pushes all thoughts of a World Cup aside. The annual showcase of the Rugby World's finest teams was met by a capacity crowd at Ellis Park. It is with healthy respect that we anticipate an All Black team that can blow any team away on any given day. But it was Heyneke's team that came out in a show of force and the fairly new look Springboks were far more dominant than expected, many of the players that won last year's encounter of course not featuring.

Rugby Championship - South Africa vs Australia opinion

Rugby Championship opinion South Africa vs Australia

For the second year in a row the Australians at home beat us right at the end in what I hope is not becoming some kind of tradition.  The most experienced Wallabies side of all time clawed their way back terrifically for a deserved win, while our late game tactics returned to an old favourite of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. We had a good outing, especially considering injuries prior and in this game, and that our backline is so inexperienced, the possibility of a defensive implosion was a worry at the back of our heads.

Springboks vs World XV - review

Springboks vs World XV review

De Allende only took a few minutes to bust his way open to the try line upon receiving a slick pass from Matfield, and the inside centre's impressive all-round performance was all the sweeter given that Jesse Kriel looked very comfortable next to him. The two of them, although newcomers, might've provided a premonition of how the centre combination will look post World Cup.
