PSL Battle weekend

Psl battle soccer weekend

This weekend is a big one for the PSL, as the last two spots for the MTN8 next year, will be contended between three teams: Orlando Pirates, Supersport United & Lamontville Golden Arrows. The game between Orlando Pirates and Supersport United will be a vital match before the two teams meet in the Nedbank Cup Final at Mbombela Stadium next weekend.

Current Standings

As the log stands now, the Buccaneers stand in 7th position with 40 points and +8 goals, while Abafana Bes’thende have wracked up the same number of points, but have a goal difference of -6. Matsatsantsa are right behind them with 39 points and a -2 goal difference. The Golden Arrows will be playing Tuks at home. Tuks are currently at the bottom of the log with 29 points.

What are their chances

All three of the teams in contention for the last two spots for next year’s MTN8 will be feeling the pressure this weekend. Pirates know that a draw will be enough for them to make the cut, and that a victory could even put them into 6th place.

For the Arrows, it’s a simple case of win, no matter what. If they draw, their best option for staying in the race is if Pirates beat Supersport.

Supersport United needs to win! If this happens they will step above Pirates on the log and can then do the same to Arrows if they draw or lose their encounter with Tuks.

Previous match-ups

The previous matches between the teams that are playing this weekend ended in close score lines with only 1 goal between each of them. Golden Arrows vs Tuks ended in a 1 – 0 victory for the Abafana Bes’thende. Supersport United beat Orlando Pirates in a thrilling game with a 1 – 0 score line.

There is a lot riding on this weekend for these three teams. Not only is it a matter of pride, but with the Nedbank Cup Final next weekend, and the possibility of playing in the MTN8 next year, there is everything to play for!
