Getting your lady summer ready

Getting your lady summer ready

To pull off the perfect summer look, certain things needs to happen… Admittedly, many men might not want to admit that they know about this, but women have to colour their hair, apply tans… all sorts of beauty rituals have to be followed - all with gorgeous result as if it were done by a team of Kardashian stylists. My natural hair colour is a Garnier Chocolate Brown 5.2, and don’t even think of raising an eyebrow implying anything else. How do I pull of this near human perfection, you ask? I have a secret weapon.

Science Rocks

Samen banner love science

What I love most about science is that it’s ruthless. You probably think scientists are hermitic loners with thick glasses, red Adidas sweat pants and zero social skills – well, you are right. But one thing we don’t know is how they revel in the success of proving each other wrong. Before a scientific discovery reaches us common folk, it goes through rigorous, heartless and unforgiving scrutiny by the science world. Say for instance, I claim to have discovered a new species of pubic hair lice; it is not as simple as taking a nether selfie and posting it on Twitter.

My soul runs on sea water & beach sand

Samen banner surfing

Everyone has their idea of what their dream job would be, but one of the ultimate ways to earn a living has to be the life of a pro surfer (in my view anyway). Each pro will obviously be different and all will have their own training regime and lifestyle. So I took a look at a day in the life of Jordy Smith, SA’s number one; Erica Hosseini, a smoking hot pro surfer from California; and Josh Kerr, an Ozzie pro surfer. I came to the conclusion that these guys and girls have pretty sweet lives! What’s the Beach Like?

Know your Mo before you Grow

Know your Mo

Generally, I’m of the opinion that one should go big or go home; half-hearted attempts rarely make the news and lets face it, who doesn’t want to receive a little special attention every now and then? During this month, previously known as November, now proudly Movember, you have the perfect opportunity to show the world what you’re made of.

Mensa vs. Densa

Samen mensa vs densa copy

Reading an article in The Star about the “second smartest man in the world” back in 2005 immediately intrigued me. Best of all, Garth Zietsman who clocks an absurd 185 on the IQ-ometer, is South African. Back then he was working at Standard Bank and amazingly wasn’t some kind of hermitic social misfit with a smelly beard, faded red sweater pants, black-rimmed glasses and wiry unkempt nose hair. He seemed quite normal really. I made contact with him and he said I should do the Mensa test.

Plane

For centuries, man has dreamt of being able to fly like a bird, to be able to soar above the clouds and feel the freedom of travelling high above the ground without any restrictions. If you’ve always had a dream of flying your own plane or even owning your own plane, then we have some guidelines to perhaps help inspire you to achieve this dream! Know the Costs when Buying a House

Samen banner

I never agree with those articles that purport that moving house is one of the three most stressful life experiences ever.  Death in the family; yes. Going through a divorce; perhaps. Major illness, job loss, even renovating your house while married; yes.

Model Ships - Are you a Wood Model Shipwright? Would you like to be?

SAmen banner

For centuries, men and boys have been fascinated with stories of naval sea battles, pirates and exploration of the unknown world. Shipping, sailing and naval affairs have played an instrumental part in developing the world we see today. Men have lost their lives, become hero’s, discovered far off lands, developed empires, lost empires and allowed the inhabitants of continents to connect – sometimes to the detriment of the inhabitants and explorers alike.

Novice Surfboards - How to Choose a Surfboard that’s Right for You

SAmen banner

Surfing is a fantastic sport. It’s thrilling, rewarding, scary and exciting all at once. You can push your limits, test your abilities and experience things that no one else has any clue about. It becomes such a big part of you, that if you don’t get it for a while, moodiness sets in, you can become grumpy and feel incomplete. So here’s the warning, if you’re new to the sport, remember that the bug bites early and you’ll find yourself wanting to return again and again to experience the thrill of riding waves. There are a few things to consider when you’re looking for a board.

Dream Garden - A Few Tips on How to Turn Your Dream Garden into a Reality

SAmen banner

So you wake up one Saturday morning and step out into your so called garden. You slowly scan the area as you sip on your first cup-of-Joe. It looks more like an abandoned construction site or resembles what you imagine to be Death Valley. You decide the time has come to turn this scrap heap into the perfect garden. And that’s a great idea, but be prepared to spend a bit of money, get stuck into some hard work, and get ready to draw up a few basic plans. The hard work will be well worth it in the end.
