Modern Homo sapiens can smell a sales person from a mile.  They shouldn’t even try to make small talk or act all interested in you, or promise you a free gift or prompt you with an irritating “Our agents are in your area this week”.  We just don’t fall for that crap any more.  As a matter of fact we get slightly miffed, if not grossly infuriated like a male elephant in musth, when some smooth talker tries to undermine our intelligence by trying to sell us something we don’t need.  Some people even complain that it is an infringement on their human rights.
