Lodge Cast Iron and Johnny Hamman Cooked up a storm

Johnny Hamman and Lodge

The creative foodie and Kokkedoor Winner, Johnny Hammond, joined Lodge Cast Iron to celebrate the launch of Lodge Cast Iron Cookware at Boardmans. Johnny Hamman cooked up a storm with the Lodge Cast iron Cookware range at the Grill House, where he demonstrated how SA braai meets all-American outdoor cooking. The CEO of Lodge flew down from Tennessee to share the story of how his great grandfather created the Lodge legacy in 1896. Lodge Cast iron Cookware has been heating things up for over 100 years. Joseph Lodge opened his first foundry in the town of South Pittsburgh Tennessee in 1896. Creating a legacy of quality that has thrived through two World Wars and the Great Depression and is still carried on by his family today. Joseph Lodge’s great-grandsons are the companies CEO and President, who continue to evolve our product line and improve manufacturing methods. Even during the hard times of the 1930s, the Lodge family found ways to keep employees above water. Novelty items such as cast iron garden gnomes and animals were produced and sold to keep the furnaces burning. As the economy bounced back, Lodge responded to growing demand, and in 1950 converted its foundry from a hand-pour operation to an automated moulding process in order to keep up with demand. Leading to safe and efficient manufacturing that at the time was rare. Continuing a dedication to technology and conservation, Lodge once again updated its foundry in 1992. The replacement of coal-fired cupola furnaces with an electro-magnetic induction melting system earned a Tennessee Governor’s Award for Excellence in Hazardous Waste Reduction. Continuously expanding their range the Lodge Logic line of pre-seasoned cookware was introduced in 2002, eliminating the hassle of its unseasoned counterparts. It was an industry first that has since become an industry standard. Lodge introduced the elegant L-Series of Porcelain Enamelled Cast iron in 2005, and has since expanded its range. Lodge Elements combines premium Stainless Steel cookware with our traditional Cast Iron Skillet in one set. The Lodge Seasoned Steel line features Carbon Steel skillets that are American-made and seasoned at the Lodge foundry, to advance the culinary lives of chefs and campers alike with these tough pans.
